Online Transaction

So I just performed my first online transaction ever in Naija. "What's the biggie?", you might ask. Well, it is o, because in such a place as Naija, with "fast guys" everywhere you turn, you'd be taking the whole internet security/online transaction thing as half-truths. So today, I just felt the urge to break the jinx. And break it, I did. I renewed my passport on here. It was really seamless. And for those outside Naija, you could actually apply for your visas online from the 2nd link titled "Visa Application Home" on the left side of the page.

What made it more interesting was how quick they debited my account and sent a confirmation to my e-mail almost immediately confirming the transaction and stuff. It felt so cool that things are looking more easier here. Though the site said secure, I'm going to be logging in to check my balance the next few days for anything odd with it oO!...maybe the PIN has been intercepted by some g33k somewhere who'd now come back to pwnt me. Yeah, that's my paranoid self talking...

Anyhoos, just thought I'd say that and wish you all a peaceful handover tomorrow. I'll be sleeping in and doing some writing...so we'd see, coming back in one piece by Wednesday. I know it's just a day in between but with the whole hype on TV, it looks like Naija's about to go through a nuclear holocaust...Who say democracy na moin-moin?

Love y'all

Is that site for real? Was looking for ways to get a visa,if this site is authentic, I might as well use it. I'll check it out.

Re: Online transactions, I am an E- commerce specialist and sad to say, sometimes I have my fears about online transactions..

@Overwhelmed: So true o, on Naija Democracy! Congrats to Nigerians, wherever they are on a "peaceful" transition! :)

@Lee: Yes o, that site is for real! I actually made payment on it and scheduled for the appointment. On the site, U can apply for a maiden passport, schedule for a renewal + make payments for both, then also the visa thingy. Do let me know what happens with your applying for a visa on it. All the best with it.

And as for my name sounding Japanese, sounds interesting. No surprise sha with most Japanese names having the Y-consonant. Yosh, actually is Hebrew. Thankx for stopping by!

@P-I: Yes o, the Yahoo! boys stuff is that bad o! EFCC is fighting, and so are they also countering their move...someone's gotta win in this fight sha.

congrats man. but i guess you have to settle for second place right behind the WAEC, JAMB, Uniabuja and co peeps. look who's talking...i haven't yet experienced the online transaction ish. ***buries head in shame***.

יש (Yosh) said...

@Jaja: Yes o, baby strides indeed. The security part needs to be really dealt with sha, other than my browser (FireFox) security or whatever Certificate ish they've got on their web site. Some extra eye on that shebang will do some good

@TRAE: I know about those Unibuja peeps o! I thought they usually go with purchasing payment cards and stuff? Well, this one is a tad bit different from those "other" online payments you mentioned...maybe not?

Man, and no shame man, no be your fault say the thing never flow inside d system that much. We are getting there sha. Very soon, you should be able to pick up stuff from Lagos with your debit card, without much fuss! ;)

ijebuman said...

On the apply passport page it says "your particulars are confidential!"
but there's hardly any SSL on the site, so how can they safeguard your details

יש (Yosh) said...

@Ijebuman: In the payment end, it goes through some security ish, some "EasySign" Logo and a Certificate used by all parties involved in the transaction, so I went ahead with it, when I confirmed the authority behind the site's certificate.

Nothing strange has happened, yet...so I'll cross my finger and hope this is a break through!

I noticed that your name is also written in Hebrew - looks like it is the abbreviation for Joshua (Yehoshua in Hebrew). Where did you learn to write your name in Hebrew?

יש (Yosh) said...

@Anon: I learned from the internet. There's this Judaica 101 site I visit...just picking, I'm not super...yet.

Anonymous said...

I am no expert either, but the fourth letter (from right to left), and perhaps to the second letter, should be dropped.

יש

יש (Yosh) said...

@Anon: Thanks for the correction...I've actually thought about it for some time now because the pronunciation of each of the letters does the spelling, anyway, if you get what I mean!? I'll change it now! :)

יש (Yosh) said...

btw, it's ugly now :( But thanks anyways... :P

There are two ways to approach the Hebrew spelling; one is using phonetics for the English pronunctiation of your name(Hebrew is pretty good at that), the other using, obviously, Hebrew pronunctiation, as in יש.

Actually, there is no 'j' in Hebrew, so forget the English phonetics. You are stuck with the 'ugly' one.

Just being a nerd.

There is of course no official "j" sound in Hebrew. However, when Israelis try to represent that sound in written Hebrew, I believe the practice is to use the letter gimmel preceded by an apostrophe or maybe a double apostrophe.

@Anon: Thanks once again for the source. I actually like the part of using the English phonetics...I'll stick with that, I think I was just in a hurry to post it! :-)

Btw, it'd be nice to have you in my Yahoo! Messenger list as my official Hevrew guide. How about that? What r ur fees? :P
